Five open films you are allowed to stream, embed, cut up and put on your own site. No stock library terms, no takedown risk. Each one is hosted here in every quality from 240p up, so you can point a player at a real adaptive stream instead of a file on your desktop.

Tears of Steel

2012 · Blender Foundation · 12:14 · 720p · CC BY 3.0

Live action and computer graphics in the same frame, shot in Amsterdam. The mix of real skin tones, hard sunlight and rendered robots makes it unusually hard to encode, which is why it turns up in so many codec comparisons.

Sintel

2010 · Blender Foundation · 14:48 · 720p · CC BY 3.0

A fourteen minute animated short with snow, fog, firelight and a lot of very dark scenes. The dark scenes are the useful part: weak encoders fall apart there and produce banding you can see from across the room.

Big Buck Bunny

2008 · Blender Foundation · 10:34 · 4K · CC BY 3.0

The most used test video ever made. Saturated colour, soft fur, a lot of green, and a frame rate that stays steady throughout. If a player or a pipeline is broken, this is usually the file people notice it with.

Cosmos Laundromat

2015 · Blender Studio · 12:10 · 720p · CC BY 4.0

Painterly animation with long, slow landscape shots and a lot of sky. Netflix re-graded this one in Dolby Vision for its own open content set, which tells you how much range the picture actually holds.

Agent 327: Operation Barbershop

2017 · Blender Studio · 3:51 · 720p · CC BY 4.0

Under four minutes, which makes it the one to reach for when you want to run a test and see the result in the same coffee break. Sharp edges, flat colour fills and a lot of hair.

Why these five and not a stock library

The licence
Every film here is Creative Commons Attribution. You may republish it, edit it, and use it commercially, as long as you credit the studio. Most free stock sites forbid exactly that: their terms stop you from putting their clips on another platform.
The picture
These were made to push encoders. Dark scenes, skin tones, fog, fast pans and long gradients, the things that break a bad pipeline.
The stream
We host each one as a real adaptive stream, not a single file. Point any HLS player at the link on its page and you get the same delivery a paying customer gets.
The masters
Every page links back to the original file at the source, so you can grab the full quality master if you need one.
